A Glimpse into Qello ‘The Netflix of Music’

Chandan Luthra Feb 14th, 2022

About

Qello is an American-based media entertainment company founded in New York in 2010. Its most notable subsidiary is Qello Concerts, a digital streaming music service that specializes in video on-demand concert films and music documentaries. By 2016, Qello Concerts added live streaming events and original programming. Available in more than 160 countries, Qello Concerts licenses long-form concerts, documentaries, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews from independent and major music labels. In 2017, it was acquired by Stingray, a multi-platform music services provider headquartered in Canada. As of Feb 2022, Qello Concerts has had more than 1 million subscribers.

Where Are They Winning

The likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu and Disney Plus have become standard video streaming destinations. But their staple content is movies and TV shows. And that by default puts Qello in a whole different league altogether. This app is for the music obsessed where you get to stream your favourite concerts and music documentaries in HD via computer, tablet, smart TV or smartphone. The Qello catalog has a whopping 1,700+ entries and with the latest technology powering their website, you can search a library of over 30 genres of live concerts. It is available on all smart TV screens including Amazon channels, Apple TV, Roku TV, Sony Smart TV, Google TV and Samsung smart TV and across all Android, iOS and Windows devices. Another major selling point offered by Qello is its ability to make setlists. You can simply add a song or a show to your queue or a setlist. You can create as many setlists as you like.

Next Growth Areas

When Stingray purchased Qello, it set out to achieve its vision of becoming the number one consumer destination worldwide for the best music on all platforms and all of their digital devices. Qello’s co-founder Rich Johnson in an interview had cited his desire to bring the biggest artists of the world -and the most obscure ones at that, onto the platform, to give everyone a great and diverse experience. Qello has certainly lived up to this by securing concert footage of celebrated musical icons such as Adele, Beyonce, John Lennon, Madonna, Coldplay, Eric Clapton, ABBA and more. Johnson had further lamented that in most cases when a certain artists’ concert is not available on their platform, the reason for the same is the lack of proper licensing by the music label necessary for streaming.

This shows how licensing and digital copyrights become an essential attribute for every piece of content created. Every content creator should get the help of a tech expert such as Enveu for the same and not leave potential revenue streams in lockdown.

In Summary

Probably Qello’s greatest advantage over other music streaming services is that it provides the visuals. Where Spotify, iTunes and Pandora are great in their own way, Qello gives you the chance of seeing the musician as they belt out their greatest hits. There is a certain electrifying experience to watch that energy and passion of the music and the artist in a live setting.

Qello’s story is an inspiring one as it bridges the gap between music and video streaming. Get in touch with us and together we can compose an OTT greatest hit.
