What is Cloud Playout in Enveu?
Cloud Playout in Enveu allows content owners to create and run linear (24×7) channels directly from the cloud by scheduling existing Live and VoD content—without retranscoding media or using on-premise broadcast infrastructure.
Does Enveu Cloud Playout re-transcode content?
No. Enveu Cloud Playout does not re-transcode content. It uses existing transcoded and packaged video assets as-is. This means no additional encoding cost, no quality loss, and faster channel launch.
What kind of video library can be used for Cloud Playout?
You can use existing ABR assets (HLS/DASH), previously transcoded VoD libraries, and live streams already encoded by your video infrastructure. If the content already plays in Enveu apps, it can be used for Cloud Playout.
Where does transcoding happen, if required?
If transcoding is required, it happens outside Cloud Playout—typically at your existing video infrastructure or OVP, or during content ingestion workflows. Cloud Playout only orchestrates playback and scheduling, not encoding.
How is scheduling handled without retranscoding?
Enveu’s CMS schedules content by logically stitching existing video streams, maintaining playback continuity, and switching assets at defined time boundaries—ensuring a seamless linear channel experience using pre-encoded assets.
Does this improve performance or cost?
Yes. Because there is no retranscoding, cloud compute costs are reduced, startup time is faster, operational complexity is lower, and existing CDN optimizations remain intact.
Can I mix Live and VoD content in a channel?
Yes. You can schedule Live streams and VoD assets together, switch seamlessly between Live and VoD, and loop VoD content when Live is not active—without modifying the underlying video encodes.
Is this suitable for FAST channels?
Absolutely. This approach is ideal for FAST channels because FAST libraries are already encoded, no duplicate processing is required, and channels can be launched and scaled quickly.
What happens if my existing encodes don’t meet platform requirements?
If existing encodes are not compatible, transcoding must be handled upstream. Once compatible assets exist, Cloud Playout can immediately use them. Enveu does not enforce a specific encoding pipeline.
Which platforms can play Cloud Playout channels?
Cloud Playout channels can be delivered across Web, Android, iOS, Smart TVs, and Connected TV platforms—using the same existing video renditions.
What is Enveu’s role in the overall workflow?
Enveu acts as the control layer for scheduling and orchestration, the experience layer for apps and UI, and the distribution layer across devices—not the video encoding layer.
Who benefits most from this Cloud Playout approach?
This model is ideal for FAST operators with large libraries, broadcasters migrating from traditional playout, sports leagues using replay libraries, and content owners with existing OVP setups.
